BEACH
RECONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF "MUNTE PREMANTURA" BEACH
Prof. Vesna Franjić
It had been an honour and a pleasure to be present at the ceremony of public opening of Munte beach in Premantura. Therefore, as a peripathologist, I feel obligated to present my observations here and thus, perhaps, help the blind to move about without help on this beach which is specifically adapted for them. Also, I hope that this information will be useful to other readers as well.
First, I will try to describe the main features of this beach.
Appearance and location
The beach consists of a stretch of natural stone shore, shaped as an irregular plateau after the reconstruction, stretching from northwest to southeast. It is approximately fifty meters long and eight to ten meters wide. It consists mostly of stone and its southeastern part is gravelly. The sea surrounds it from the west, north and east, while the supporting wall separates it from the pinewood forest on the south.
Parts of the beach
The following parts of the beach have been built according to project documentation. I will try to describe them as best I can.
1. Approach path
2. Sunbathing area
3. Artificial cape
4. Gravelly beach
5. The ramp
There is another important detail closely connected to the beach, although it refers to the sea. The sea next to the beach is bounded by rectangular shaped buoys so that this water surface looks like a huge swimming pool.
Finally, I would like to point out a few more things. The steps used to access the water are more or less under water, coated with algae and, despite regular cleaning and maintenance, they will be slippery, so be careful! The sunbathing area is in a better protected beach zone.
Due to its features, this beach is rightfully designated as an adapted beach. In the current state, certainly there are flaws which will be discovered through practice, but it is undoubtedly a small, very nice, well maintained beach that will give its visitors many joys and pleasures.
